If the Jets wind up firing head coach Adam Gase, he may have a job waiting for him within the division.
In his Monday Morning Quarterback column, Sports Illustrated senior NFL reporter Albert Breer wrote that Gase could wind up as part of the New England Patriots coaching staff if Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch were offered jobs by other teams in the league.
Breer said Gase, Browns wide receivers coach Chad O’Shea and Patriots tight ends coach Nick Caley could all factor in a rebuilt Patriots coaching staff. Gase, who worked with McDaniels when the two were at Michigan State, could be a quarterbacks coach if McDaniels were to stay with the Patriots.
Gase would be better suited for as an offensive coordinator or quarterbacks coach. Gase has experience being an offensive coordinator, holding the title with the Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears.
As a head coach, Gase has compiled a 32-47 record in five seasons and led his team to a winning record once.
Given the way the Jets have performed this season, along with the team being out of the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes, Jets fans would most likely offer to move Gase themselves, as long as he is no longer coaching the team.
