MLB betting odds are on the board for a full slate plus one, as there are 16 games on the Tuesday schedule. Among the noteworthy matchups, the San Diego Padres host the Los Angeles Angels, and the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians resume their AL Central series.
Caesars sportsbooks provided insights on MLB opening lines and early line movement, sharp money and public betting for Tuesday’s games. Covers will update this action report with MLB sharp picks vs. public bets and line movement throughout the day.
MLB line movement
UPDATE 4 P.M. ET TUESDAY: The Indians opened -230 at FanDuel early Monday evening, when Shane Bieber was expected to start against the visiting White Sox. However, later Monday, Cal Quantrill got the nod for Cleveland, and the moneyline is now Indians -130/White Sox +114. The White Sox-Indians total also made a big move, from 8 to 9.5. The Yankees, with Gerrit Cole starting, opened -240 and stretched to -280 against the Blue Jays, and New York is now -260 for a 6:37 p.m. ET first pitch.
San Diego has already clinched a playoff spot, making a charge at the Los Angeles Dodgers in the process. But the Padres are now four back with six games to play in this shortened season, so they’ll likely have to live with second place in the NL West. The Angels, even with arguably MLB’s best player in Mike Trout, won’t sniff the postseason, but they are on a 4-1 upswing entering this 9:10 p.m. ET start.
Caesars books opened at Padres -160/Angels +150, and there was no line movement through Monday night.
Cleveland beat Chicago 7-4 Monday night and can continue to shore up its postseason position in Tuesday’s 6:10 p.m. ET clash. Initially, the Indians were expected to start Shane Bieber (8-1, 1.74 ERA), but it will instead be Cal Quantrill (2-0, 2.52), which helps explain the line movement Monday night. Caesars opened Cleveland at -225 and closed to -180, with Chicago +165.
The AL West and NL West leaders collide when the Oakland Athletics face the Los Angeles Dodgers at 9:40 p.m. ET. Caesars pegged the host Dodgers -175 favorites, with the A’s +160, and there was no line movement Monday night.

MLB public betting
UPDATE 4 P.M. ET TUESDAY: Bettors definitely like the White Sox on the road today, as Chicago is taking 81 percent of tickets/85 percent of dollars on the moneyline against Cleveland at FanDuel. Runline dollars are 2/1 in favor of the White Sox, getting 1.5 runs. The Indians-White Sox total is seeing 64 percent of bets on the Over, but money is almost dead even, with 52 percent on the Over. And the public, per usual, loves the Yankees, with New York attracting 81 percent of bets/94 percent of cash on the moneyline, and 89 percent of bets/96 percent of money on the runline -1.5 vs. the Toronto.
The Dodgers were landing 64 percent of picks in Covers Consensus through Monday night, and their NL West brethren Padres were attracting 70 percent of early picks. The Philadelphia Phillies were the most popular play through Monday night, drawing 73 percent of Covers Consensus picks for a 3:05 p.m. ET doubleheader opener against the host Washington Nationals.
