Ethel Irene ‘Babe’ Moist | News, Sports, Jobs

At 93 years of age, Ethel Irene “Babe” Moist went to rest into the arms of the Lord Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020.

She was the daughter of the late Oral Miles and Josephine (Hart) Sunderland. On July 31, 1999, Babe was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Stanford C. Moist Sr.

The following siblings also preceded her in death: Charles O. Sunderland, Geraldine (Sunderland) Kepner, Harriet (Sunderland) Robinson, Joseph Sunderland, and an infant sister, Mary Louise Sunderland.

Her brother, Ferman Sunderland, of McVeytown, survives.

Also surviving are: her children, Sonja Redifer and husband, Michael, of Waynesboro, Va., Stanford Moist Jr. and wife, Victoria, of Hummelstown, Jeff Moist, Beth Zong and husband, Mark, Greg Moist and wife, Kim, Jamie Cunningham and husband, John, and Brian Moist and wife, Beth, all of McVeytown.

Babe was a loving grandma. Her 19 grandchildren are: Heather, Doug, McKenna, Jordan, Bradley, Brandon, Lindsay, Becca, Daniel, Cody, Whitney, Dylan, Kelsey, Kolby, Jason, Jenny, Andrea, Adam and Andrew. In addition, Babe had 43 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Her family continues to grow as more children are expected.

Early in life, Babe spent her time caring for her husband and children, tending to all their needs and preparing delicious meals. In her spare time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching her favorite TV shows. As she got older, she appreciated times spent with her family, including shopping and going out to eat with her daughters, attending sporting events, and being a part of family gatherings. She especially enjoyed going to worship services at the McVeytown Presbyterian Church.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan Street, Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
